What's happening at the Rollers?

Just to keep you in the loop as to what is happening on the Rollers front ahead of the start of the 2010/11 season.

I have been busy scheduling our fixtures for the coming season. So far I have 12, two waiting on days, and another two to be confirmed. As per request, there is no Fishhoek or Noordhoek this season, and instead I have organized game against the likes of Squirrels and Spin Doctors for the first time in many years.

I have also booked games to coincide with mini pre-season and end-of-season tours. We return to our old stomping ground of Robertson for a early-season liver shake-up on October 10, then finish our unbeaten season with a game against Hermanus, who we have played since the days of league cricket for Koeberg.

Claude (yes he of ‘this is the season I play for the Rollers’) has also mentioned the possibility of a game against Durbanville’s very competitive fourth side, while the guys from Coastal Strikers also want to know whether we are keen on a six-a-side next month to get some of the cobwebs off (Cornell, they mentioned something about you NOT being invited).

You’ll see we end quite early in December and start quite late in January so as to avoid problems of filling a team. I will also try to space out the cluster of games around end-November, early-December.

Then, as per my mail I sent out last week, this is the squad we have to work with so far. As per usual, we will have our ‘core’ group of players who are available most weeks, and then guys who can fill in on occasions.

Finally, Dave is back at home after just about buying shares in the Vincent Pallotti hospital. I will arrange with him for a date so we can have a social of sorts, to help the old fella finish off the old beers and bottles of rum which have been gathering dust and blooding some new ones.
